DEATH AT SEA.–(6 Minutes Read).

The publication was originally presented on my facebook page on the 8th of November 2917 and I believe it will serve a purpose of informing my avid readers, viewers and followers.

It goes thus:

The recent publications about casualties recorded at the Mediterrenean Sea that engulfed every media space in which about twenty-six Nigerian women or ladies lost their lifes is quite appalling, disheartning and disappointing.

It can be concluded to be result of a society that has lost her values in all ramifications thereby making her inhabitants and occupants to start looking for solutions desperately even at the expense of their lifes.

Our society in this part of the world is a society that has her consciousness and sensitivity platformed on some ideologies and philosophies that are quite suicidal in all facet sicne the idealogies and philosophies are premised on the fact that critical and desperate situations warrant critical and desperate solution, a kind of belief that trigger and spur the superiority of extremism over existentialism.

There are some sorts of creed that makes the essence of existentialism to be subjected to extremism thereby making existentialism to be inferior in all ramification.Hence, many prefer the concept of extremism to existentialism even if it warrants putting their lifes on the line.

Our society has made some people to believe in the worship of god of mammon whereby you are waht you are based on the financial status quo you are known for.Hence, everybody struggle and strife immensely without giving a damn about whose ox is gored to accummulate properties and acquire wealth at the expense of their lifes and that of the next person around them.

Hence, they become hell bent in search of greene pasturesby embarking on a suicide mission to Europe through the desert and through the sea.

Many arguments are on course now about Nigeria government being indifferent to the news of these ladies that lost their lifes.I wonder why we keep blaming Nigeria government on this without subjecting the issue at hand to root cause analysis that will proffer meaningful solutions to this issue this menace that is eating deep the fabrics of Nigerian society.

Day-in-day-out, there have been a lot of jingles sponsored by the National Orientation Agency NOA warning desperate and innocent Nigerians on the dangers of embarking on a self-destructive journey into Europe through desert and through the sea but we can see that many of us have allowed our reasoning to become blur by our inordinate quest for wealth and materialism at all cost.

Since they are all ladies and their corpses were discovered close to Italy, it can be concluded that they are on a journey to add to the census and statistics of prostitution netwiork and drug trafficking cartel in Italy but their hope was dashed and varnished into thin air in the middle of the high sea.

It is pertinent for the Nigerian society to be subjested to treatment and sensitization against the evil of inordinate quest for materilaism and wealth.

Any society that glorify and grandeurises money and all its offers will end up trading and mortgaging her future for money accompanied with the loss of lifes of her young who are believed to be leaders of tommorrow.

A progressive society has her yopung ones weeping for the death of the old but a retrogressive society that is hell bent on wealth and material acquisition at all cost will have the old weeping for the death of the young ones.

Such society can be asserted to have a bleak future.

What makes a bad society is when the elders in such society are busy doing nothing in checkmating the extreme desire of the younger generation for money and gold.

They ended up loosing their lifes in search of greener pastures because they forget that the pastures are always green anywhere in the world even in the desrt but time and season for pastures becoming green differs from each other.

Therefore,it is seasonal.

It is when the millenia understand the concept of time and season as it affects life that they will stop embarking on an endeavour that will take their lifes or soil their image.

The Nigeria Government shoild engage more stringent measures to curtail and nib in the bud the cartel of human trafficking that are orchestrating the illegal exodus of Nigerian youth into the heart of Europe in order to facilitate their illicit and dirty businesses that have to do with prostitution, drug trafficking and human trafficking.

death at sea (1)

The Nigeria borders are known to be porous and permissible, and this has made this illegal trade of human beings so easy in this part of the world.Presently, there should be an arm of our security agencies and parameters that will be empowered constitutionally to trail and burst this anti-social organisation that is feeding fat on the innocence of desperate Nigerians.

In the meantime, all media spacies were awashed with news of the burial conducted on the 17th nopf November 2017 by the Italian Government with the news of the burial becoming an International headlines.The results of the autopsies have being confirmed that the girls likely drowned,according to the Guardian.

‘There were no signs that they had been raped or physically abused’ a medic who worked on the postmortem examinations of the bodies said.”They most likely couldn’t swim”.

All but two of the girls found remain nameless.The two young women authoritioes were able to identify were pregnant,Reuters reported.

Marian Shaka,was named by her husband, and Osato Osaro, was identified by her brother who had been in the boat with her according to CNN.

In the meantime, the effort of Italian Government for giving them a befitting burial is appreciated and recognised eventhough Nigeria Government didnt see any reason in being represented in the burial of her citizen that lost their lifes.

MLST NEWS:OXFAM INTERNATIONAL BOSS SAYS HAITI SCANDAL ‘BREAKS MY HEART’.—(5 Minutes Read).

The executive director of Oxfam International said on Sunday she was heartbroken by a sexual misconduct scandal in Haiti that prompted Britain’s government to threaten to cut off aid funding to charities.

Oxfam,one of Britain’s biggest charities, has condemned the behaviour of some former staff in Haiti, after a report in the Times Newspaper said aid workers paid for sex while on a mission to help those affected by the 2010 earthquake.

Britain’s aid minister said government would cut aid funding from any charity that did not comply with a new review into their work overseas,calling reports of sexual exploitation in the sector “utterly despicable”.

Winnie Byanyiwa, who became executive director of Oxfam International in 2013,said she was saddened by what took place in 2010 and that it could not happen under systems and rules put in place since.

“I feel deeply deeply hurt…What happened in Haiti was a few priviledged men abusing the very people they were supposed to protect-using the power they had from Oxfam to abuse powerless women.It breaks my heart,”Byanyima said in an interview with Reuters TV in New York.

“We want to restore trust.We want to build that trust.We are committing to be honest,to be transparent and to be accountable in addressing this issue of sexual misconduct.We are in a different place today”she said.

British Aid Minister Penny Mordant said on sunday that she would write to British charities that work overseas demanding they declare any problems relating to the duty they have to protect their staff and the people they work with from harm and abuse-so called safeguarding.

oXFAM BOSS

Byanyima said charities must stop people who do not share their values from joining their organizations.

“We need to do more in terms of investigations and sharing the results of those investigations so that investigations so that offenders don’t go on to offend in other organization she said.

She said Oxfam would share with the relevant authorities all the information it had relating to the 2010 incident.

“You know it’s not within our power to return  people who are not our staff to Haiti to face prosecution,she said.”But we will avail everything that we know from investigation to whichever authority wants to have this”.

On Friday,Oxfam said allegations that underage girls may have been involved were not proven,it said four members of staff were dismissed as a result of the investigation and three resigned before the end of the investigation.

Reuters could not independently verify the allegations contained in the Times report and was unable to immediately reach any of the Oxfam staff who worked in Haiti.

Oxfam neither confirmed nor denied the Times newspaper report but said its misconduct findings had “related to offences including harrasment,intimidation and failure to protect staff  as well as sexual misconduct”.

NEWS EDITORIAL:WHAT IS WRONG WITH US IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD?

This is the question that occupied my mind when I read a particular publication on http://www.lailasblog.com as news filter around the entire Nigeria nation of a governor who appointed  and swear-in her sister as commisioner for Happiness and Couple’s fulfillment.

(Page 1)

The original publication goes thus:

According to http://www.lailasblog.com,Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has sworn-in 28 commissioners and 27 Transistion committee chairmen for the 27 local government councils in the state.

He charged them to prove their worth in the service of the state and her people.

One of the commissioners sworn in by the governor is his biological sister,Mrs.Ogechi Ololo(nee Okorocha).She is now the  state’s commissioner for Happiness and Couple’s Fulfillment.

Ololo,who is married to Chuks,an engineer,was the All Progressive Congress’s candidate into the House of Representatives for the Owerri Federal Constituency seat in 2015 and she has served in various capacities since Okorocha because the state governor in 2011.

rOCHAS SISTER

She had, before her new appointment,served as her brother’s Deputy chief of staff and special Adviser on Domestic Matters.

Swearing in the new commissioners and the Transition committee chairmen on Monday at the Imo International Convention Centre,Owerri,the governor charged them to leave their marks in their respective ministries and local governments.

He urged them to see themselves as men and women on a rescue mission.The governor added they had come to be part of the success story of his administration.

Okorocha said,

“You are the priviledged group that has the opportunity to make names for yourselves. I want to remind all of you that this appointment is not business as usual.We shall not tolerate any sharp practice or corruption of any type.Neither shall we accept indolence or laziness.You have been called to duty to help us achieve our vision in the Rescue Mission project”

“At this moment ,I charge you all to be good ambassadors of the Rescue Mission wherever you find yourselves.To the Transition Committee chairmen,you must ensure that ongoing projects must be completed especially the schools,chapels etc”.

The commissioners sworn in and their portfolios are:

  • Prof.Nnamdi Obiaraeri—–Information;

  • Lady Ugochi Nnana-Okoro—Agric.and food security;

  • Gertrude Oduka—Primary and Secondary Education;

  • Dr.Jones Uzoka–Niger Delta Affairs;

  • Uchendu Mark—-Public Utilities;

  • Gerald Okolie—-Rural development;

Others are:

  • Dr.Cyril Okafor—–Tourism;

  • Emmanuel Ojinere—Trade and Investment;

  • Chief Lasbery Anyanwu—Transport;

  • Onwueyiagwu Valentine—Youth Development;

  • Mrs Ngozi Njoku—-Gender and social Development;

  • Chief Joseph Udoji—Works;

  • Achilike Nwawuike—Internal Resources and Pension Matters;

  • Prof.Emenalo Chizoba—Tertiary Education;

  • Nwamerenini Chukwuka—-Labour;and

  • Dr.Iyke Njoku—Planning,Budget and Statistics.

The Transition Committee chairmen sworn in include:

  • Eke Chudi—-Ngor Okpala;

  • Aloysius Onwuegbuchulam—Njaba;

  • Paschal Onwukaike—-Nkwerre.

(Page 2)

This sort of reality is quite overwhelming and unexpected in the corridor of Nigeria polity whereby the needful is left undone and unattended to,shadows are being dished out to Nigeria citizens and substance has become a mirage with people’s expectations and hope of a brighter and a better society being dashed by the crop of clowns elected as our leaders in this part of the world.

“What could have warrant such a display of mediocrity and insensitiveness?”

“What will end up being the impart and impact of a commissioner who was given a portfolio of Commissioner for Happiness and Couples’Fulfilment if not that another avenue or channel is being created to siphon state treasury?”

It is a pity that  we find ourselves in a mess that no one is sure when an end will come to it.This is another continous and constant display of incompetence that is eaten deep the fabrics of our society.Leaders in this part of the world are leaders who lacked ideas and some of them can be submitted to be suffering from dementia that seems to be chronic and incurable.

If we fail to build our society on the concept of good leadership,it cannot be too extreme to submit that Nigeria as a nation is on a long walk to freedom.

SECURITY:MARK ZUCKERBERG ADMITS FACEBOOK ‘MADE MISTAKES’–BUT THEY WON’T HAPPEN AGAIN,HONEST.—(5 MINUTES READ).

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of under-fire social networking firm Facebook, has finally emerged from his bunker to admit that his company “made mistakes”over sharing users’ data with third parties.

Or rather,Zuckerberg has finally posted something about the Cambridge Analytica affair on his own personal Facebook page.It follows claims that the data analysis company had harvested personal data from 50million Facebook users in a not entirely starightforward manner.

“The goodnews is that the most important actions to prevent this from happenning again today we have already years ago,”Zuckerberg claimed,referring to changes made to Facebook’s developer platform policies in 2014 that stopped app developers from gathering data about friends of people using their apps.

However,before these changes were made four years ago, University academic Aleksandr Kogan-in collaboration with Cambridge Analytica-built an app called ‘This is your digital life’ that paid around 300,000 users to take a personality test and agree to have their data xcollected for academic use.

The app, however,also collected the information of the test-takers’Facebook friends, which led to thye accummulation of data pool “tens of million strong”.

In 2015, we learned from journalists at The Guardian that Kogan had shared data from his app with Cambridge Analytica,”Zuck admitted.

“We immediately banned Kogan’s app from our platform and demanded that Kogan and Cambridge Analytica formally certify that they had deleted all improperly acquired data.They provided these certifications.

“Last week, we learned from The Guardian,The New York Times and Channel 4 that the Cambridge Analytica may not have deleted the data as they had certified,”he added.

Zuckerberg went to pledge that, while it has already moved to “prevent bad actors from accessing people’s information”,the social network will be taking further steps to protect user data.

Just like he promised back in 2012 following an investigation by the US Federal Trade Commision.

“First, we will investigate all apps that had access to large amounts of information before we changed our platform to dramatically reduce data access in 20144,and we will conduct a full audit of any app with suspicious activity,”Zuck says,adding:”We will ban any developer from our platform that does not agree to a thorough audit”.

Facebook has already blocked Kogan,who claims he’s being “scapegoated’ whistleblower Chris Wylie and,naturally,Cambridge Analytica,despite the firms claims that it’s, er, did nothing wrong.

Zuckerberg continues:”We will restrict developers’data access even further to prevent other kinds of abuse.For example, we will remove developers’ access to your data if you haven’t used their app in three months.

“We will reduce the data you give an app when you sign in—to only your name,profile,photo,and email address.”

Zuckerberg went on to promise that the company will be more transparent over data usage, and will show remaining Facebook users “a tool at the top of your News Feed with the apps you’ve used and an easy way to revoke those apps’permissions to your data”.

Or could just delete your account and be done with.That’s exactly what Brian Action,the co-founder of Whatsapp made a billionaire by Facebook’s $19billion acquisition of his company,has recommended if you want to put a stop,once and for all, to Facebook’s rapacious data slurping.

In other news, this 2009 BBC interview with baby-faced Mark Zuckerberg has also been doing the rounds.

IRAN-IRAQ EARTHQUAKE:445 PEOPLE DEAD FROM DEVASTATING QUAKE IN BORDER REGION.–(4 Minutes Read).

According to a publication on http://www.independent.co.uk on the 13th of November 2017 by Bethan Mckernan in Beirut,death toll in magnitude quake climbs as rescuers continue search for survivors in a badly hit Iranian town of Sarpol-e-Zahab.

The number of people killed in an earthquake that struck Iran’s western province has risen to 407,officials have said.

Iranian state news said on Monday that most of the casualties are from border town of Sarpol-e-zahab in Kermanshah province.

Behman Saedi,a spokesman for the country’s crisis management headquarters was quoted by the semi-official Fars and Tasnim news agencies as saying the death toll was now 407.

A further 6700 people have been injured, and the emergency services warned the toll was likely to increase as they gained access to more remote mountanous areas.

A total of 70,000 people are in need of emergency shelter across fourteen affected provinces around the country,the Iranian Red Crescent warned in a statement.

Electricity has been cut off in many cities across the two countries and fear of aftershocks has driven many people outside despite cold November temperatures.

Rescue workers continued despite the difficulties posed by landslides and health ministry put out a call for emergency blood donations.

At least 14 provinces across the country had been affected,local media reported.Awoman and her baby were reportedly pulled out alive from the rubble.

“We need a shelter”,a middle-aged man in Sarpol-e-Zahab told state TV.

“Where is the aid?Where is the help?”.

His family could not spend another night outside in cold weather, he said.

Relief workers said while much aid had been pledged, there was an immediate need for blankets,childrens’clothes,medicine and large cans to store drinking water.TV aired footage of some people weeping next to corpses shrouded in blankets.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khmenei has offered his condolences and three days of mourning have been announced in Kermanshah.Anational day of mourning was announced for Tuesday.

In Iraq, the earthquake killed at least seven people and injured 535 others, all in the country’s northern semi-autonomous Kurdish region,according to its interior ministry.

Iran-iraq

Turkey, despite recent tensions over the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government’s(KRG) controversial independence referendum,said on Monday it would send aid including tents, beds,heaters and food to help alleviate the situation expressing “deep sadness”at the loss of life.

Many of the heavily damaged complexes in Sarpol-e-Zahab were part of the construction projects begun under former hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The  disparity in the fatality figures between the two countries immediately drew questions from Iranians, especially because so much of the town was new.

Kokab Fard, a 49-year-old woman from the town, said that she could only flee empty-handed when her apartment complex began to shake.”Immediately after I managed to get out, the building collapsed…I have no access to my belongings,”she said.

Raza Mahammadi,51,said he and his family ran to the alley following the first shock.”I tried to get back to pick some stuff but it totally collapsed in the second wave.”Mr Mohammadi said.

The magnitude 7.3 quake was centred was centred 31kilometres(19miles) outside the eastern Iraqi City of Halabja, the US Geological Survey said.It struck at a relatively shallow depth of 23.2kilometres(144miles),which usually leads to broader surface-level damage, and tremous recorded as far west as the Israeli coast of the Mediterenean and as far South of Baghdad.

“I was sitting with my kids having dinner and suddenly the building was just dancing in the air”Majida Ameer, who ran out of her Baghdad home,said.

“I thought at first that it was a huge bomb.But then heard everyone around me screaming:’Earthquake!”‘

Iran, which sits on several geological fault lines, is prone to earhquakes.A magnitude 6.6 quake in 2003 killed 26,000 in the city of Bam.

SAUDI ARABIA SAYS CINEMAS WILL BE ALLOWED FROM EARLY 2018.—(3 Minutes Read).

In a report published on Reuters on the 11th of December 2017.

It was reported that Saudi Arabia said on Monday that public cinemas would be allowed in the conservative kingdom for the first time in over 35years,and that the first ones were likely to open next March.

Cinemas were banned in the early 1980s under pressure from Islamists as Saudi society turned towards a restrictive form of the religion that discouraged public entertainment and many forms of  mixing between men and women.

Under reforms led by 32-year-old Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman,the government is easing many of those restrictions,and also plans to lift a ban on women driving next year.It says the economy,hit hard by low oil prices will benefit from the growth of an entertainment industry.

cROWN pRINCE

“Openning cinemas will act as a catalyst for economic growth and diversification,”said Minister of Culture and Information,Awwad bin Salah Alawwad.

“By developing broader cultural sector we will create new employment and training opportunities as well as enriching the kingdom’s entertainment options”.

By 2030,Saudi Arabia is expected to open over 300 cinmas with more than 2000 screens,a government statement said,predicting the cinema industry would contribute over 90billion riyals($24 Billion) to the economy and create 30,000 permanent jobs by 2030.

Regional cinema chain operators are already believed to be studying entry into Saudi Arabia,industry sources said.

A  commission chaired by Alawwad will announce details of licensing and regulations over the next few weeks ,the government said.

CIA TRIED TO KILL FIDEL CASTROL WITH POISON PEN ON DAY OF KENNEDY’S ASSASSINATION,JFK FILES REVEAL.— (3 Minutes Read).

According to the report published by Tom Powell of Evening Standard online news.

The CIA was working to kill Fidel Castro on the day John F Kennedy was assassinated,newly released files reveal.

The latest batch of JFK documents,published online on Thursday contain details of a US plot to kill the Cuban leader with a lethal ballpoint pen.

President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas on November 22,1963.On the same day, a CIA officer in Paris gave a  Cuban asset a pen rigged with a syringe.

“The evidence indicates that the meeting was under way at the very moment President Kennedy was shot”the document says.

The plot was one of many considered by US defense forces to remove Castro, who was feared by Kennedy as detailed in the files.

“We cannot overemphasize the extent to which responsible Agency officers felt themselves subject to kennedy administration’s severe pressures to do something about Castro and his regime”the report says.

The release of more than 13000 records by US National Archives is the fourth release of documents this year.

Most of the overall collection comprising about five million pages of records has been released to the public but some documents have been withheld over the years to protect individuals intelligence sources and methods and national security.

The latest documents are being released according to a law that President George H.W.Bush signed on October 26,1992.

That law required all records related to the assassination being released 25 years, unless the president says doing so would harm intelligence, law enforcement,military operations or foreign relations.

Last month, on the 25-year deadline,President Donald Trump wrote in a memorandum that he had”no choice” but to agree to requests from some government agencies to continue withholding certain information.

Mr.Trump, however, directed agencies to again review each of their redactions during the next 180days.

He said agency heads needed to be extremely circumspect in recommending that information still needed to be withheld from the public.

Government agencies have until March to tell the National Archives why any part of their records should still be redacted.

The records included in this latest public release have not been re-reviewed by the agencies as part of the process.

Conspiracy theorists have long questioned the official conclusion the Mr Kennedy was murdered in Dallas by Lee Harvey Oswald and that he was acting alone.
