Congratulations to the Nigeria Central Bank Boss

ABUJA (Reuters) – Nigerian Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele was approved for a second five-year term in office on Thursday, when he won a unanimous vote of support in the Senate, parliament’s upper house.
During his first term, Emefiele, who has backed a strong local currency, pumped billions of dollars into the foreign exchange market to support the value of the naira.
President Muhammadu Buhari, whose office favours a strong naira, nominated Emefiele for a second term in a letter to the senate on May 9. His term was due to expire this month.

“The nominee has performed credibly in his first tenure which resulted in the exit of the nation out of economic recession,” the Senate’s committee report said in recommending approval for Emefiele’s nomination.
Emefiele also introduced a multiple exchange rate regime to try to mask pressure on the naira and avoid a series of devaluations, in a step that has kept liquidity tight in Africa’s biggest economy.

Princess Diana’s Niece, Lady Kitty Spencer, 28, Steps Out With Millionaire Boyfriend, 60

Lady Kitty Spencer, the glamorous 28-year-old niece of Princess Diana, has been photographed strolling through the streets of Manhattan with her 60-year-old rumored boyfriend, fashion tycoon Michael Lewis, all but confirming a long-rumored relationship between the two.

It’s been whispered since last fall that Lady Kitty was dating Lewis, the multimillionaire founder of women’s clothing brand Whistles, who is six years older than her father, Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother. Charles is known for giving a powerful speech at Diana’s funeral excoriating the royal family for failing to protect his sister.

Photographs published in The Daily Mail show the young model tenderly resting her hand on Lewis’ shoulder, described as “a gesture that publicly confirms her relationship with the fashion tycoon for the first time.”

The couple were spotted trying to avoid being photographed together this week leaving the Mark hotel in Manhattan. Lady Kitty was seen walking out of the establishment a few moments after Lewis, but the couple then hopped into the same waiting taxi.

Lady Kitty was previously in a four-year relationship with Niccolò Barattieri di San Pietro, 48. They split in 2017 and he began dating Liz Hurley, 53.

Lewis is South African-born and Lady Kitty grew up in South Africa after her dad and his wife Victoria split. Both her parents are younger than Lewis, who has a fortune estimated at £80 million ($1o2 million) and is a divorced father of three, according to the Mail.

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Lady Kitty once again declined to confirm her relationship with Lewis, saying only: “I’ve been really lucky. I’ve always had really lovely, straightforward boyfriends… I don’t see the appeal of going for anyone who’s too complicated or not trustworthy… I just like people who are kind.”

Lady Kitty, who was only 6 when Diana died, became a social-media star after a showstopping appearance at Harry and Meghan’s wedding in an emerald-green hand-painted Dolce & Gabbana dress that was paired with a Philip Treacy fascinator.

She told Harper’s Bazaar her Instagram follower count “went from 17,000 to half a million in one night. I thought I had someone else’s phone when I woke up the next morning. I had to turn my notifications off because my phone was going to die.”
Kitty, whose blond hair, wide smile, and bright blue eyes are often compared to Diana’s, has also sought to continue some small parts of her famous aunt’s charitable work. She’s as an ambassador for the youth-homelessness charity Centrepoint, of which Diana was patron, and Prince William is now.

Is Lai Mohammed a liar?

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has raised serious allegation against President Muhammadu Buhari accusing the president of plotting to put him in jail.
Atiku was reacting to a statement by the minister of information, Lai Mohammed, who claimed the former vice president has been making treasonable statements.

Atiku said: “My attention has been drawn to accusations by the Muhammadu Buhari led administration against the candidate of the Presidential Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 elections and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, alleging that he has made treasonable statements.

“It is not surprising that such a despicable lie is emanating from Mr. Lai Mohammed, President Buhari’s aptly named Minister of Information.

“Lai Mohammed is so associated with lies that even Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said, on Monday, May 13, 2019, as follows:

“People like Lai Mohammed, Abba Kyari, Adamu Adamu they are usually very well behaved during the Ramadan. But I’m not even sure that that is true anymore.”

“When we have a situation where even those who employed him know that Lai Mohammed is a liar, who will even lie during the holy month of Ramadan, then why should Nigerians be surprised at this latest lie?

“Mr Lai Mohammed is only being clever by half when he says “It beggars belief that a candidate who prides himself as a democrat can so allow desperation to becloud his sense of propriety to such an extent that he will be associating with anti-democratic forces or making inflammatory statements.”

The statement described Atiku as a man of peace who would never get involved in undemocratic activities. It however described President Buhari as a desperate man who dined with dictators.

“How can a man who wined and dined with Nigeria’s most brutal dictator, how can a man who overthrew a democratically elected President and held a grudge against him even in death (as evidenced by the empty condolence register he left in Sokoto, last year) accuse a man who has never been as much as associated with such tendencies, of being an anti-democrat?

“We want to know why the desperation on the part of the Muhammadu Buhari government to rope in the Peoples Democratic Party and its Presidential candidate in phantom plots? Obviously, President Buhari wants to replay the Phantom plot saga of his now deceased mentor, who threw former President Olusegun Obasanjo in jail after falsely accusing him of treason in order to perpetuate himself in power.

“Could it be that they are now aware that the electoral fraud they perpetrated during the last Presidential election is about to be exposed beyond a shadow of a doubt?

“If anybody is “beating the drums of war”, it is precisely those who have issued statements threatening Nigerians and foreigners alike with “body bags”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, let me inform the minister of disinformation that Atiku Abubakar resisted the Abacha dictatorship, of which President Muhammadu Buhari was a prominent member, and it is his resistance and the sacrifice of his co-travellers, like chief MKO Abiola and Alex Ekwueme, amongst others, that gave rise to the democracy that the current government is now trampling on.”

Meanwhile, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu on Wednesday, May 15, said the election of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second-term in office was a clear proof that no man, but God gives power.

Akiolu made the statement when participants of the Senior Executive Course 41 of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, visited him in his palace in Lagos.

Spain court clears Shakira of plagiarism

A Spanish court said Thursday it had cleared Colombian superstars Shakira and Carlos Vives of accusations they plagiarised part of their Grammy award-winning hit “La Bicicleta”.
Livan Rafael Castellanos, a Cuban singer known as Livam, had alleged that the catchy tune copied parts of the melody and lyrics from his own song called “Yo te quiero tanto” (I love you so much).

“There is no plagiarism whatsoever as claimed by the plaintiff in this lawsuit,” the commercial court said in its ruling.

Music publisher MDRB had filed a complaint in 2017 in the Madrid court on behalf of Livam.

In March, Shakira, 42, who lives in Barcelona, told the court she had “never heard” Livam’s song before.

Vives, 57, also said he did not know the song or Livam.

“La Bicicleta” — or “The Bicycle” in English — won two of the three biggest Grammy Latino awards for 2016, including song and record of the year.

In the song Shakira and Vives sing “que te sueno y que te quiero tanto” (I dream of you and love you so much), while Livam says “yo te quiero, yo te quiero tanto” (I love you, I love you so much).

But the court ruled that the expression was “common, used in all sorts of songs and lyrics, all through history”

It added that the melody, rhythm and harmony were different in both songs.

Another court case

Shakira, who lives with FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and their two sons, is due to appear in court again in June for allegedly evading taxes of 14.5 million euros ($16.3 million), a charge her lawyers deny.

She is suspected of not paying taxes in Spain despite being a resident between 2011 and 2014, according to prosecutors.

Shakira only transferred her official residency to Spain from the Bahamas in 2015.

But a spokesman for prosecutors in Barcelona told AFP last year that this didn’t “match reality” with her children and partner already in Barcelona.

Shakira’s representatives insist that until 2014 she earned most of her money on international tours and didn’t live more than six months a year in Spain — a pre-requisite to be an official tax-paying resident in the country.

With her mix of Latin, Arab and rock influences, Shakira is one of the biggest stars from South America, scoring major global hits with songs such as “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Whenever, Wherever”.

Air Drake makes its debut flight this week.

It might not be out of the ordinary for an A-list celebrity to own a private jet, but Drake has gone one step further and treated himself to a custom Boeing 767.

The converted cargo plane, which is valued at £142.9 million by Airways magazine – without customisation – was revealed to Drake’s fans on Instagram and made its debut flight this week to Turks and Caicos.

The custom pale blue jet has since been dubbed Air Drake, with the rapper giving a special tour of the plane on Instagram. As the gigantic 767 and its custom Air Drake logo was unveiled, an emotional Drake told the camera, “I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

The exterior of the plane features a large owl decal, the logo of Drake’s company OVO (October’s Very Own) and inside there’s a spacious lounge full of purple velvet three seater couches, cream and violet leather armchairs, wood finishings and tray ceilings.

Another video shared by Drake’s friend DJ Akademiks on his Instagram account also revealed a private bedroom with mirrored cabinets and a king-sized bed. DJ Akademiks, whose real name is Livingston Allen, also took viewers into a private living room and a more traditional business class-style seating set up at the back of the plane.

In his video, Drake revealed the plane had been fully bought and paid for saying, “No rental, no timeshare.”

Even taking into account the fact that Drake’s net worth has been ticking over nicely with massive profits from his tours and album sales, it’s still a pretty big purchase. The Canadian rapper explained on Twitter he had purchased the jet from a “homegrown business”, as he bought the luxe ride through Canadian company Cargojet Airways and its CEO Ajay Virmani (who also makes an appearance in the video).

Cargojet also re-shared Drake’s plane tour video, adding on Instagram that the musician was a “new brand ambassador”.

Allen posted another video on Instagram which revealed Air Drake had made its debut voyage – all the way to tropical paradise Turks and Caicos.

The video shows two figures descending from the plane and Allen captioned the post, “Air Drake has taken its first flight and landed in Turks and Caicos.”

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje rejected by Kano Court.

A Kano state high court sitting at Ungogo has declared the appointment and the installation of four new emirs by the state government as null and void
Daily Nigerian reports that in his ruling on Wednesday, Wednesday, May 15, Justice Nasiru Saminu, directed all parties in the suit to maintain the May 10 status quo pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. gathered that Governor Abdullah Ganduje had on Friday, May 10, defied the court order and issued appointment letters to the new emirs.

It was also gathered that between May 11 and 12, the governor presented the new emirs with their staffs of office.

Ganduje had on Wednesday, May 8, created four additional emirates with first class emirs in the state, a move that was alleged to have been carried out to whittle down the influence of Emir Sanusi.

It was learnt that one Nasiru Sule Gwarzo filed a suit challenging the creation as well as the installation of four new emirs in the state.

Similarly, on Tuesday, May 14, the state’s kingmakers, who are four in number, had approached the court challenging the governor’s decision, saying Ganduje’s action distorted the history of the emirate.

According to one of the reliefs they sought, the kingmakers lamented that giving effect to the purported law has distorted history, especially as it regards to the positions they are holding in the emirate.

The top emirate council members further said their position is a heritage in trust for their respective clans of Jobawa, Sullubawa, Yolawa and Dambazawa.

Meanwhile, had previously reported that the controversy surrounding the traditional institution in Kano took a new turn as four kingmakers of Kano Emirate sued Governor Abdullahi Ganduje over the creation of four additional emirates in the state.

Britney Spears becoming incapacitated. What a sad story!!

Britney Spears may never perform again, according to her manager.

The ‘Piece Of Me’ hitmaker’s longtime manager, Larry Rudolph, has claimed that it will be a long time until the singer – who recently completed a 30 day stint at an unnamed facility after she became ”distraught” over her father Jamie’s ongoing health battle, which began when he ruptured his colon last November – ever sets foot on a stage again, and possibly never.

He told TMZ: ”As the person who guides her career – based on the information I and all of the professionals who work with her are being told on a need-to-know basis – from what I have gathered it’s clear to me she should not be going back to do this Vegas residency, not in the near future and possibly never again.”

Britney appeared in front of a judge last Friday (10.05.19) and alleged that her father Jamie – who has controlled her finances and life since her breakdown in 2007 – committed her to a mental health facility against her will last month and forcing her to take drugs. There is now a social media campaign called ”#FreeBritney”, which was set up by her fans in a bid to free her of her conservatorship.

A source previously revealed Britney has ”come such a long way” during her time in a mental health facility and can’t wait to spend time with her sons Sean, 13, and Jayden, 12, when their summer break starts.

A source said: ”When she was in the facility, Britney spoke nonstop about going home and seeing her boys, and that is the very first thing she did. She wants to spend every moment she can with them and can’t wait for their summer break to begin. While everyone warned her to take it slow and give herself time in the facility, Britney missed her routine and just being in her own bed. She has come such a long way. She’s had years of therapy and care, and this time, she knew the signs when she needed help. With the support of [boyfriend] Sam Asghari and her father she made the decision to get help and she’s very proud of that.”
