Famous Ohangla dancer killed by floods trying to rescue her children

Celebrated Ohangla musician Abenny Jachiga is mourning death of his band member Vivian Awuor who drowned on Tuesday, April 23, following heavy rain in Nairobi.

Vivian, a mother of two, left the children at her sister’s house in Kibera for the Easter weekend and she had gone to pick them on that fateful evening when the tragedy struck on their way back home.
According to the musician’s management, the dancer’s first born slid and fell into the raging flash floods prompting her mother who was carrying second born to dive into the waters.
Her body was later retrieved and taken to City Mortuary even as team led by Kibera sub-county commander, Michael Muchiri, embarked on search for the missing kids’ bodies.

The deceased had her last gig at a night club in Dagoretti Corner in Nairobi on Sunday, April 22, and took a rest the following day owing to fatigue.

Fan of the ohangla crooner have taken to various social media platforms to convey in their condolences.

The tragic Nairobi floods were attributed to lack of proper drainage in the area despite county’s failed attempts to unclog sewage systems.
