Mbire men rape daughters in bizarre rituals

DISTURBING reports have surfaced from some remote parts of Mbire district in Mashonaland Central where some fathers are allegedly raping their daughters and forcing them into incestuous relationships which they believe guarantees them a bumper crop harvest.
This came to light following increased cases of rape presented at the chiefs’ courts and also of young girls turning up pregnant at health facilities. These remote areas are far from police posts and clinics so chiefs’ courts are their only source of justice.

“Ward 2 has the most reported cases of incest involving fathers and their daughters. And according to some of the victims, they are being forced to be intimate with their fathers,” Fadzisai Mawunganidze of Katswe Sistahood said.

There is widespread belief – perpetuated by traditional healers – in the area that a greater yield is achieved when the father becomes intimate with his daughters.

“Some of the girls fall pregnant and that is when the crime is revealed, but because they are cut off from clinics and police posts it becomes difficult to report,” she said.

As part of their interventions, Katswe Sistahood and other stakeholders are now engaging the local leadership and other government officials to raise awareness on issues like teen pregnancies and child marriages, which are rampant in the area.

“We also highlight the importance of accessing health services such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and emergency contraceptive methods when there are such cases,” she said.

PEP involves taking antiretroviral medicines after being potentially exposed to HIV to prevent infection. PEP must be started within 72 hours after a recent possible exposure to HIV.

Meanwhile, rape cases in Zimbabwe have been on the increase over the years and last year a report from the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency revealed that 7 394 cases had been reported in the first quarter of 2017.

There were also reports that 24 women were raped everyday with 60% of the cases involving children below the age of 18.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) recently warned female vendors and those commuting at night to be wary of rapists who were posing as prospective customers or commuters.

In a Twitter post, the ZRP urged the women to be vigilant, saying they had noticed a trend where women were being waylaid in secluded places.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry embrace Good Life with Frogmore Cottage vegetable plot

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have installed an organic vegetable garden at their new home in Frogmore Cottage , sources claim.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be able to grow their own herbs, fruits and vegetables at the Grade II-listed cottage.

The cottage was gifted by the Queen last year, with Kensington Palace confirming them to be the new residents, saying Windsor was a ‘very special place’ for the couple.

Meghan is said ‘very involved in the renovation project and wanted the final design to be perfect’, according to a royal source.

“Workers have been working around the clock since January to ensure that the cottage is completed to a very high standard with some rather interesting and unique features,” the source said.

Located near the Windsor Castle, the Queen’s residence, the royal couple will be able to live country life away from the hustle and bustle of London with their first child.

It’s said the cottage includes provision in the design to reduce outside noise and high-quality interior furnishings.

With the all-inclusive vegetable garden, the pair can easily cook home-grown produce.

The source said: “The Duchess also has a passion for cooking so it was suggested to include a small plot in the spacious garden where they can grow some of their own produce.

“The last minute design changes caused the Duke and Duchess’s move in date to be delayed.

“But they were extremely patient.”

Plans for the multi-million-pound renovation were approved by Royal Maidenhead and Windsor Borough Council in December after asking for permission for “internal and external works […] and associated landscaping”.

However, no further details have been revealed on the council’s planing page due to ‘sensitive information’ that cannot be made public.

Frogmore Cottage was built in the 18th century for Queen Charlotte, the consort of King George III.

Queen Charlotte used the property as a countryside retreat for herself and her unmarried daughters.

Queen Victoria had breakfast at the cottage in 1875 and said it was a place with an “immense number of frogs” which she found “quite disgusting”.

Kensington Palace declined to comment.

Nigeria’s economy slipping, says World Bank

The World Bank has said that the Nigerian economy has been slipping since 1995 and this continued till 2018.
The bank, in its latest report on the regional economy titled, ‘Africa’s Pulse’, released the taxonomy of growth performance in sub-Saharan Africa, which focused on the macroeconomic and financial features that led to growth resilience on the continent.

According to the bank, the taxonomy is used to help identify the factors that are correlated with success or failure in economic growth performance in sub-Saharan Africa, with emphasis on macroeconomic and financial variables.

The analysis, it said, involved a series of macroeconomic variables for 44 sub-Saharan African countries from 1995 to 2018.

The key elements that determined the positions of each of the 44 sub-Saharan economies in the taxonomy, the World Bank said, included the level of income per capita of the countries; structural transformation, as captured by sectoral value-added share and sectoral employment share; and capital flows.

Others are level and composition of public sector indebtedness, as captured by the general government gross debt and its currency composition, and the outstanding external public debt.

The last of the indicators has to do with governance vis-a-vis government effectiveness, regulatory quality, control of corruption, voice and accountability, political stability, and absence of violence and rule of law.

According to the World Bank, the taxonomy compares the average annual GDP growth rates during 1995–2008 and 2015–2018 against predetermined thresholds.

It also categorised growth performance into five groups: falling behind, slipping, stuck in the middle, improved, and established. The five groups were further reclassified into three groups: Top tercile, middle tercile and bottom tercile.

The Bretton Wood institution said, “If a country’s economic performance declined from 1995–2008 to 2015–18, the country is categorised in the bottom tercile, which includes ‘falling behind’ and ‘slipping.’ If a country’s growth rate remained invariant over time, between 3.5 and 5.4 per cent in both periods, it is categorised in the middle tercile (or stuck in the middle). If a country’s economic performance improved from 1995–2008 to 2015–18, with the growth of more than 5.4 per cent per year, the country is categorised in the top tercile, which includes the ‘improved’ and ‘established’ groups.”

Based on the above classification, the Nigerian economy was categorised alongside 18 other sub-Saharan African economies as slipping having recorded declined economic performance between 1995 and 2018.

The World Bank said, “The bottom tercile consists of 19 countries: Angola, Burundi, Botswana, the Republic of Congo, the Comoros , Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Lesotho, Mauritania, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Eswatini, Chad, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. These countries did not show any progress in their economic performance from 1995–2008 to 2015–18. For instance, their median economic growth rate decelerated, from 5.4 per cent per year in 1995–2008 to 1.2 per cent per year in 2015–18.”

The bottom performing economies, according to the World Bank, produce almost 60 per cent of the region’s total GDP, emphasising that the three largest countries in the region—Nigeria, South Africa, and Angola—and many commodity exporters are in this group.

Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Mali, Rwanda, Senegal, and Tanzania made the top tercile.

The middle tercile countries are Benin, the Central African Republic, Cameroon, the

Democratic Republic of Congo, Cabo Verde, The Gambia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Mauritius, Niger, Sudan, São Tomé and Príncipe, Togo, and Uganda.

The World Bank also cut its growth forecast for sub-Saharan Africa this year to 2.8 per cent from an initial 3.3 per cent.

The commodity price slump of 2015 cut short a decade of rapid growth for the region, and the bank said growth would take longer to recover as a decline in industrial production and a trade dispute between China and the United States take their toll.

The bank’s 2019 forecast means economic growth will lag population growth for the fourth year in a row and it will remain stuck below three per cent, which it slipped to in 2015.

“The slower-than-expected overall growth reflects ongoing global uncertainty, but increasingly comes from domestic macroeconomic instability including poorly managed debt, inflation and deficits,” the bank said.

The Bretton Wood institution equally cut Nigeria’s growth forecast by 0.1 per cent.

It said, “Growth in Nigeria is projected to rise from 1.9 per cent in 2018 to 2.1 per cent in 2019 (0.1 percentage point lower than last October’s forecast).

“This modest expansion reflects stagnant oil production, as regulatory uncertainty limits investment in the oil sector, while non-oil economic activity is held back by high inflation, policy distortions, and infrastructure constraints.

“Growth is projected to rise slightly to 2.2 per cent in 2020 and reach 2.4 per cent in 2021, as improving financing conditions help boost investment.

“In Nigeria, although the manufacturing and non-manufacturing PMIs remained above the neutral 50-point mark—which denotes expansion—they fell further in February, due to weaker rises in output and new sales orders across firms.

“Household consumption in Nigeria has remained subdued, while multiple exchange rates, foreign exchange restrictions, low private sector credit growth, and infrastructure constraints have continued to weigh on private investment.”

The Chief Economist for Africa at the bank, Albert Zeufack, said the region could boost annual growth by about nearly two percentage points if it harnessed Information Technology more effectively.

“This is a game-changer for Africa,” he added.

However, the spokesperson for the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Isaac Okorafor, said the CBN under the current governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, had shown so much ingenuity in managing the economy.

“You know the crisis that we have faced in the past three years. The bank has shown ingenuity in managing the situation and ensuring that everything is stable.”

Superb Hazard sends Chelsea third

Eden Hazard scored twice, including a contender for goal of the season, to give Chelsea a vital 2-0 win over West Ham that moves them up to third in the Premier League.

Hazard showed superb skill to get past three West Ham players before lashing home (24), and got another with a cute touch and finish late on (90) to wrap up the points.

West Ham had their share of chances to equalise in the second half, but the result means Chelsea have a three-point cushion over Arsenal in fifth, although they have played a game more. West Ham stay 11th, five points off the top seven.

Chelsea dominated the ball in the opening period, but had to wait until the 24th minute to cut West Ham open thanks to some Hazard brilliance, hours after it was reported on Sky Sports News that Real Madrid were increasingly confident of signing the Belgian in the summer.

Picking up the ball on the turn 45 yards out, Hazard took on Mark Noble and slalomed past Angelo Ogbonna and Fabian Balbuena with a fine piece of skill before poking past Lukasz Fabianski with his left foot from 15 yards.

Moments later, Hazard nearly set up Gonzalo Higuain for a second as the Argentinian hit the post from an angle, and he was then denied by Ryan Fredericks’ superb block after the striker had controlled and shot from close range.

As it happened | Premier League tableLive football: What’s on Sky Sports this weekPremier League top scorers

Hazard was running the show, and had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down after Marko Arnautovic looked to have barged him to the ground.

The game opened up after the break as Manuel Lanzini forced a smart save from Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Aaron Cresswell struck just wide from range on the half volley with West Ham pushing hard for a leveller.

Barkley was then inches away from converting Callum Hudson-Odoi’s centre across the face of goal, and at the other end Emerson produced a vital block as Arnautovic looked to head home sub Robert Snodgrass’ wicked cross.

It was not entirely comfortable for Chelsea, but they got their two-goal cushion in the last minute as Hazard took down Barkley’s cross 10 yards out, before finding the bottom left corner past Fabianski on the half volley.

The managers

Maurizio Sarri: “When Hazard is able to play like this in matches, we’re very lucky as it’s easy to win the match. He’s able to make the difference.

“[£100m] is too cheap in this market. I have no idea but we have seen it’s very hard to change Hazard with another player.”

Manuel Pellegrini: “When a player with the quality of Eden Hazard, you know he can make different things. Going through four players is not easy. But we could have done better in the way we defended that goal and our play.

“We changed things and we had a chance to draw. I saw the personality in the second half but in the first half, no.”

Opta stats

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 13 home league meetings with West Ham (W9 D4) since a 2-3 loss in September 2002.

West Ham have scored just one goal in their last seven away Premier League games (D1 L6), a Mark Noble penalty in a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.

Chelsea have lost just one of their last 20 home Premier League matches (W12 D7 L1), a 0-1 defeat to Leicester City in December 2018.

Hazard has scored 19 goals in all competitions in 2018/19 – his joint-best tally in a season for Chelsea (level with 2014/15).

Hazard has been directly involved in 11 goals in his last 10 Premier League games at Stamford Bridge (6 goals, 5 assists).

Hazard has been directly involved in more Premier League goals than any other player this season (16 goals, 12 assists).

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has had a hand in four goals in his last three Premier League games for Chelsea (2 goals, 2 assists), after a run of 11 appearances without a goal involvement in the competition.

Man of the match – Eden Hazard

Not much of an argument here. On the day his future was questioned again, the Belgian completely ran the show.

Stats-wise, he had the most shots, dribbles completed, chances created and passes into the box of all the players, but the first goal was a joy to behold. His low centre of gravity will be giving West Ham’s defence nightmares for a few weeks. He is so, so good.

“You feel sad in some ways that there is so much talk of Real Madrid,” said Gary Neville on MNF after the game. “If this is his last five league games, it’s a real problem for the Premier League.

Jamie Carragher has compared Chelsea’s fight to retain Eden Hazard to when Barcelona came calling for Luis Suarez.

“I don’t think you can ever stop players moving to Real Madrid and Barcelona. I think most players see that as the pinnacle, and it’s happened at both Manchester United and Liverpool.

“It’s sad as I love watching him week in, week out. But I almost feel like Hazard has to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona.”

What’s next?

Chelsea now go to Slavia Prague on Thursday for their Europa League quarter-final, first leg, before travelling to Anfield to face Liverpool on Super Sunday, live on Sky Sports Premier League at 4pm; Kick-off is at 4.30pm. West Ham go to Manchester United on Saturday in the Premier League at 5.30pm.

Princess Beatrice to marry ‘millionaire property developer boyfriend in months’

Princess Beatrice could be set to marry her multi-millionaire boyfriend just a few months after they moved in together, her friends have claimed.
Her mum Sarah Ferguson is reportedly already thinking about what she is going to wear at the wedding.

The daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson is said to have fallen madly in love with property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

“They are incredibly happy and already planning the wedding” one pal told The Sun on Sunday .
Friends say Edo, who is a Count, has moved in with Beatrice at her pad in St James’ Palace and spends most of his time there at the moment.

One friend said: “I don’t know if he has actually got down on one knee with a ring yet but they are openly talking about marriage and it will either be later this year or possibly early in 2020.
“I know her parents are delighted and the Duchess is already thinking about her wedding day outfit”

Back in March the couple made their first public appearance when they stepped out at a National Portrait Gallery fundraiser.

Beatrice, who is eighth in line to the throne, wore a wine coloured velvet midi-dress, finished with a waist-syncing belt, gold jewellery and vertiginous platform heels.

The couple were first linked at Princess Eugenie’s wedding back in October.

Edoardo was previously engaged to Dara Huang, a Chinese-American architect with whom he shares a two-year-old daughter.

The pair split in 2018 and Edoardo began dating Princess Beatrice the following September, having been long-term family friends for years.

At first the couple were keen to keep their romance low-key, but according to friends they are now happy for it all to be out in the open.

Cardi B admits motherhood is much harder than she expected and she worries Kulture will forget her when rapper jets off for work

She’s the dotting mom to eight-month-old Kulture Kiari – whom she shares with husband, Offset.

And Cardi B has now opened up about the hard reality of motherhood, confessing it was more difficult than she thought.

Speaking at the Beautycon Festival in New York City over the weekend, the 26-year-old beauty said she was worried with all her traveling that her daughter will forget her.

‘It’s very hard. It’s like the hardest challenge ever. I don’t even like talking about it. I really don’t like talking about it because it’s, like, very hard,’ she began.
‘For example, I haven’t seen my baby now in two days because I was in Vegas, now I’m here. And it’s just hard because I be like, “damn, will she forget about me, like, in two days?”‘

The Bodak Yellow rapper went on to explain that she thought she’d just get a nanny and have her daughter fly around the world with her.

‘When I was pregnant, I used to be like, it’s gonna be easy. I’m just gonna hire a nanny and my baby’s gonna come with me everywhere. But it’s like once you have the baby, it’s hard to get a nanny because you don’t trust nobody with your kid!’

She continued to praise her mom and sister for helping out with her daughter but said it’s too much for her mom to go from city to city within 72 hours.

‘On top of that, me and her dad, we’re always in different places. Like I used to think, “oh we gonna be in this house in Atlanta, big this, big that”, but we haven’t even been in our house for, like, two months!

But it wasn’t all bad with Cardi explain the upside was that Kulture was ‘gonna have a lambo when she be like 18.’

The I Like It hit-maker earlier shared a split photo of Kulture and her sister Hennessy Carolina as a baby.

‘Bro this is weird i gave birth to another Hennessy,’ she captioned.

Cardi shares Kulture with her on-and-off husband, Offset.

Justin Bieber Pens Love Poem for ‘Soulmate’ Hailey Bieber: ‘The Best Is Yet to Come’

Justin Bieber is tapping into his poetic side for a heartfelt message dedicated to his wife, Hailey Bieber.

The “Sorry” singer took to Instagram on Monday, sharing a black-and-white snapshot of his lady love, tastefully posing shirtless on a balcony in Paris, France, with the iconic Eiffel Tower in the background.

Bieber captioned the sultry snapshot with an emotional poem, expressing his love and devotion to the 22-year-old fashion model.

“Sunlight falls into the Abyss/ Just like i fall into your lips/ Waves crash onto the shore/ My love for you grows more and more,” the 25-year-old pop star wrote, in poetic verse form. “Sound of the crickets a true meditation/ I think about you, Gods greatest creation./ As i fall into this blissful state/ I ponder on how you’re my one true SOULMATE.”

“Its getting dark to dark to see/ A chilling breeze embraces me/ The smell of camomile fresh from the garden/ My life is a movie that both of us star in,” the poem continued. “Speaking of stars I’m starting to see some/ They light up the sky, reminds me of my freedom/ How big and how vast our world is around us/ So grateful for god we were lost but he found us/ So i write the poem with him always in mind/ Things all around us Just get better with time.”

Below the poem, Bieber concluded his heartwarming post with a message of appreciation for his lovely wife.

“I fall more in love with you every day! You have walked hand and hand with me as I continue to get my emotions, mind, body and soul in tact! You have given me so much strength, support , encouragement and joy,” he wrote. “I just wanted to publicly honor you, and remind you that the best is yet to come!”

The sweet post comes nearly seven months after the pair tied the knot at a secret ceremony last September in New York City, and reportedly just moved into a new home in Beverly Hills last week after the duo spent months hunting for a house together.
