MEDITATING ON MY NOSTALGIC WEEKEND.

I was overwhelmed by the flow of nostalgia that swept through my veins in the course of the weekend.

I didn’t feel the flow while I was committing Lagos-Ibadan expressway but immediately I found myself on Ibadan-Oyo road,I started remembering moments of old that have made me to pass through that axis.

Right from the day of searching for industrial training placement in NNPC-PPMC Sagamu to a point in time whereby I attended burial ceremony in Oyo that I have to stay in Akinmorin and some other moments like that that I plied Oyo-ogbomoso road when I am in dire need to attend to one thing or the other.

I found myself in Oyo town on Saturday in honour of my roommate in Dutch Villae while in LAUTECH to celebrate the 80th birthday of his old man,to my surprise,Oyo town maintain the serenity it has been known for.

Oyo town is a different town that is far different from Lagos and I really envied the lifestyle of people resident in this area.

While listening to some indigenes that came around for the birthday party,to my utmost surprise, some of this young folks are landlords already and their source of income is solely from the stipends they are collecting from teaching job which might not be fetching them up to thirty thousand naira per month.

While many of us that clustered in Lagos with salaries that are far from what is obtainable in Oyo town never know when we will have a land to ourselves not to talk of becoming a landlord.

To be Candid, properties in Lagos is absurd and extremely unreasonable.

In other not to digress too far,my journey availed me the opportunity to see faces that the last time I saw them should be around 2003 and 2004.Even,if not that I saw my roommate in Ilesa in 2009,we would be counting 15years of separation now but to the glory of God,we met again after a decade of separation.

The birthday bash was quite grounded with my stay since Saturday evening till this morning.

I saw my roommate again with his entire family and it was a pleasant time to talk about old issues and introducing his roommate to his family made me to understand practically that old wines tastes better.

Though,he still maintain his physique but on my side I have added weight with me being a beard gang.

I really enjoyed my moment in Akinmorin with the entire Oyewo dynasty.

Thanks to my host and his beautiful wife—Engr.Oyewo Bolarinwa.

Do you think your attitude is good and acceptable?

Stop it before it stop you.
Stop fixing eye-lashes,
Stop wasting time fixing nails,
Stop wasting time on make over.

Time is of essence,
The beauty of your destiny can never be reflected in your outward look.
What this generation and posterity want from you is outside the confines of your outward look.

Take your time to fix your attitude.
You will attract the right attention when your character is good.
Good attitude and characters are needed for your prayers to be answered.

Until you get your attitude right, your efforts to achieve your desire might be a hard nut to crack.

God respect and honour the humble but resist the proud.

Goliath was proud and wicked but God taught him humility by allowing a teenager of 17years called David to destroy him with the whole of the Philistines scattering when Goliath fell off.

Just as people around Goliath suffered defeat, those who live around any body who is proud might suffer with the proud but if we spend our time pointing it out,the life of the wicked and others might be saved.

Right attitude attracts right attention. and right direction.
Right character commands right congregation of the right people.

Your struggle to get along smoothly with the reality of life is hinged on your ability to show how positive your attitude is to people around you.

ATTITUDE

It is foolishness to have a flat attitude and expect your life to fiat right vibes.

Pause for a while and check what others are talking about you.

Can they all be wrong making negative comments about you?

You think their complaints are wrong but the best you can do is to appraise their complaints based on what the complaints are all about.

You don’t give a damn?

Yes!It is good and cool not to give a damn about whatever they are saying about you but it is only a whore or a prostitute that live a life based on such philosophy.

Great minds appraise themselves periodically in order to become better and even with people around them.

Enough of displaying bad attitude.

Our world needs better attitude from better people for the fate of posterity to be better in the process of time.

Attaining an altitude of relevance and prominence requires having the necessary attitude that will serve as a launching pad to project your through personality to people around you in the process of time.

When you have the right attitude to every issues of life, expected victory becomes a walk over having the potential of building a good relationship that will make people around you to enhance their relationship with you.

Good relationship and the ability to maintain such relationship are keys that must be kept by anyone who desire to have a better effective lifestyle that is devoid of grudges and malice thereby prolonging longevity and sound health.

The question is:

In the course of your existence on earth, will you enhance better relationship through better attitude or will you remain adamant or unconcerned about what people say about you?

Are we prepared for the booming population?

It was on my way out on Friday last week that I observed within the vicinity of where I was that within such a space that there are many women around been blessed with a protuded belly.

Initially,I thought I was being unrealistic and unreasonable about my observation but I was wrong as I kept on seen many pregnant women on my way out.

At that point,it dawn on me that we are blessed in this part of the world with our men and women been fruitful as far as procreation wants it.

I was a little bit frugal and economical with my statistics at the point because I opined that in ten years’time Nigeria population will be around 250 million but my statistics was defeated when I read that we are already 201million.

So,it is expediently necessary that I have to correct myself by being realistic.

If this astronomical increase is unchecked,I think the Nigeria population might hit 500 million in ten years’ time.

Anyway, this form of increase is not a crime but a blessing in disguise only if we understand how we can turn it around for the progress of our dear country.

pop

It means if we optimised and maximised this population boom,we will have no hassle in our human capital resources that has been a source of blessing to many nations of the world.

In another vein, while I was meditating on my observation,I noticed that the population boom we are experiencing might end up being a burden to our national existence when we put into consideration how backward we are as a nation when we are having lesser population.

Apart from Providence and share luck with faith and superstition that makes a content of our creed, anthem and mantra, there is nothing on ground that we have as a plan for the new born babies we are expecting.

Our government have been unable to meet up with the demand of all of us that are around now,how can we expect those that are in the womb to be taken care of?

It is a pity that we are trapped in a geographical location and entity that has no value and premium for life’s and we can see how her citizens are being treated in the country and some that are in diaspora are even having a feel of the despicable level of inhumanity Nigerians are exposed to without any form of solutions to it in the nearest future.

No form of excuse will be acceptable because countries with high population census are trying to do better.

At least,China and India have been able to upgrade themselves as a relevant force in the comity of Nations.

In conclusion,we are blessed until we know the value of our blessings. This is the only way by which we make our blessings count for the overall development of our nation which should start when every individual in the country are given a preference and treated the way others are being treated in other nations of the world.

World Malaria Day 2019: 25th of April 2019.

Symptoms of malaria and how you can beat the disease.
SYMPTOMS OF MALARIA:
High grade fever,

chills,

headache,

decreased urine output,

nausea,

loss of consciousness,

vomiting,

convulsions,

blood in stools,

anemia and

difficulty in breathing are some of the symptoms of Malaria.

animal-close-up-creepy-762935.jpg

Malaria, which is caused by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito, affects a huge section of the world’s population especially in Africa, South and Central America and Southern Asia. In India, about 20,00,000 people are infected by malaria every year leading to 1,000 deaths. Malaria cases in India account for 70 per cent of infections in South East Asia.
Every year, April 25 is celebrated as World Malaria Day, to consolidate and re-strengthen efforts to control the disease. Malaria has been in existence since the last 1,00,000 years and despite the progress made by science and medicine in controlling the disease, it continues to be the biggest killer of mankind.

The theme for World Malaria Day 2019 is ‘Zero malaria starts with me’.
Some of the symptoms are:
High grade fever and chills
*Headache and nausea
*Decreased urine output
*Loss of consciousness
*Vomiting and convulsions
Blood in stools
*Anemia
*Difficulty in breathing
Symptoms typically take between 10 days to four weeks to emerge. In some it cases can lie dormant for several months which if left untreated can turn fatal.

Preventive measures:

Malaria can be prevented by mosquito control measures like preventing water stagnation and spraying insecticides in mosquito breeding sites.
Use of mosquito nets, mosquito repellent creams and being fully covered (wearing long-sleeved clothes) are simple but effective steps for controlling the disease.

Travelers can be given medicine for the time they stay in the endemic area.

animal-close-up-color-1101193.jpg

Diagnosis and treatment

Early diagnosis helps in quick and complete recovery of the patient. The disease can be diagnosed by examining blood samples or by conducting antigen based rapid diagnostic tests.
Treatment of malaria is through anti-malarial medications like Artemisinin, quinine. In some cases, the malaria parasite may be resistant to commonly used drugs.

Complicated cases might also require ICU care, dialysis and ventilator support.

Diets to be followed.

Intake of fruits and pulses should be increased as they provide adequate nutrition. Add foods such as carrot, beetroots, papaya, and citrus fruits – orange, berries, lemon – that are rich in vitamins B and C to boost immunity.
*Take a high protein diet with a combination of carbohydrates to keep your body healthy and functioning. This can be eaten in the form of dal and rice combinations, chapattis with sprouts/dals, dairy products, etc. For non-vegetarians, eggs, meat and poultry are good choices.
*Eating fried and processed foods, junk, oily and spicy foods can aggravate nausea and can disturb the digestion process in the body. They may also lead to diarrhea.

*High fibre foods like whole grain cereals must be avoided.

Consumption of caffeine in the form of tea, coffee, cocoa must also be avoided.

Duchess Meghan to take three months maternity leave

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, will only take three months of maternity leave after she gives birth to her first child.

The 37-year-old former actress is expecting her first child with husband Prince Harry any day now, and although she has the opportunity to take a full year away from royal duties in order to care for her tot, sources say she’s planning just three months off before she heads back to work.

Meghan – who was known as Meghan Markle before joining the royal family in May last year – finished her official royal duties six weeks ago but continues to work behind the scenes with various charities, and reportedly wants to return to public life in time for Queen Elizabeth’s official birthday in June.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Meghan has made it very clear she wants to return to work as soon as possible. She has huge amounts of energy, is extremely determined and wants to be as hands-on as possible with her charities.

“Nothing has been written into her diary just yet, as she wants to wait and see how she feels after having the baby. She’s pencilled in three months, but she’ll most likely return to public life in six weeks – on the Queen’s official birthday, Trooping the Colour, in June.

“Three months’ maternity is standard in the US for American mums – they don’t normally get the six or even 12 months women get here in the UK. So this is totally normal for Meghan.”

Prince Harry, 34, is also planning on taking paternity leave, though it isn’t known how long he plans on being away from royal duties.

Meanwhile, it was recently claimed Meghan has been “nesting” with £60 scented candles from luxury brand Diptyque in her and Harry’s new home at Frogmore Cottage.

A source said: “Meghan has really been struck with the nesting impulse in the last few weeks. She loves the candles and the cottage smells divine.”

Beyonce launches new viral dance challenge

Beyonce has launched a viral dance challenge inspired by her new cover song Before I Let Go.

The singer surprised fans by releasing the Homecoming live album on 17 April (19), the same day as Netflix dropped her Homecoming special, which featured her headlining performance at Coachella 2018 as well as behind-the-scenes footage. In the closing credits of the documentary and on the album, Beyonce debuted a new song Before I Let Go – a cover of Frankie Beverly & Maze’s 1981 black cultural anthem.

The track has now sparked a new viral dance challenge, with dancers showing off the routines they’ve created to the song, which features directional lyrics such as, “Ooh, bunny hop, bunny hop, drop, pop/ Cross your legs, turn around and clap/ Shuffle to the left, let’s glide now/ Ooh, drop it down, drop it down low, low.”

Beyonce launched the #BeforeILetGoChallenge on her Instagram Stories on Monday by promoting the hashtag with a bee and heart emoji. The singer, who rarely uses that Instagram function, also shared dozens of video submissions from dancing fans showing off their moves.

“Y’all!!!!!!!!!!!!! @beyonce just posted my #beforeiletgochallenge to her Instagram!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I’m dying…. ,” user @Kiara_Imani tweeted Monday.

Beyonce dropped the Homecoming album on all streaming services – including Spotify and Apple Music – on Wednesday, a rare move for the singer who usually shares her new music exclusively on husband JAY-Z’s TIDAL service.

She is now following suit with some of her other work – bosses at Spotify and Apple Music announced on Tuesday that her 2016 album Lemonade is now available on their platforms, three years after its release.

Mega projects: Ambode has done well –Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari had a busy one-day working visit to Lagos State, yesterday, when he inaugurated five iconic projects he affirmed would improve on Nigeria’s infrastructure, particularly in the transport sector.

The projects were the Institute of Maternal and Child Health (Ayknke House), Ikeja; Lagos Theatre, Oregun; Oshodi Transport Interchange; 820 Mass Transit Buses and the International Airport Road, Ikeja.

However, National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos Deputy Governor, Idiat Adebule and dozens of cabinet members, were conspicuously absent at the events.

There were no official reactions from Tinubu and others, just as attempts by Daily Sun to get reactions were unsuccessful, as those contacted to speak on the development refused to comment.

Buhari, who landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, at about 10:45am, arrived Ayinke House, about 15 minutes later.

He was received by his host, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, and his counterparts from Ogun, Ibikunle Amosun; Oyo, Abiola Ajimobi; Ondo, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu; Ekiti, Kayode Fayemi and Adamawa, Jubrila Bindow. Edo State acting governor, Philip Shaibu; Lagos governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat and Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu 1, also received the president, alongside the governor.

Thereafter, the president unveiled the project, and also, toured the facility.

He left to commission the Lagos Theatre, in Oregun are a of the state, from where he retired to the Government House, Alausa, with his entourage and visiting governors.

At about 1.18pm, the president, accompanied by the governors, arrived Oshodi to commission the multi-billion transport interchange.

In his address, the president, who expressed delight at the project, said: “I am delighted to be here today (yesterday), to commission three key projects which reflect the drive and success of our administration in pursuing policies and programmes that will positively impact on our citizen.”

He said the interchange, the mass transit medium and high capacity public buses, and the reconstructed Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, by the state government, will continue to provide high impact projects for the development of infrastructure and opportunities for job creation at all levels.

“This transport interchange, with different terminals, is going to change the face of public transportation. The mass transit buses totalling 820 buses will also move the people of Lagos state in a more comfortable and more efficient manner.”

Buhari added that the projects perfectly align with the efforts of the Federal Government; to improve the country’s infrastructure, especially in the transport sector.

“To complement Oshodi Transport Interchange, the federal government recently approved the reconstruction of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, up to Oworonshoki, and Old Toll Gate, which was last attended to 40 years ago.

“We have recently commissioned new international airport terminals in Port Harcourt and Abuja, as well as the rail lines from Abuja to Kaduna. The Lagos to Ibadan rail line is under construction. Our government will continue to prioritise high impact infrastructure; which will vastly improve the lives of our people,” the president added said.

He thanked the people of Lagos state for their support, for his administration and the APC, and also, commended Ambode for his “satisfactory contribution to the growth and development of the state.”

In his remarks, Ambode thanked the president for his direct influence and support which made the projects a reality.

The governor said it is on record that the state had never enjoyed such measure of support from the federal government as it had done in the last four years.

Ambode said the Murtala Muhammed Airport Road and the U-Turn Flyover would be opened for public use, immediately, while the two flyovers would be open for use from May 10 after the quality assurance work is completed.

Terminal 3 of the Oshodi Transport Interchange will become fully operational on May 1, while Terminals 1 and 2 would become operational by the end of May.

He said the projects were part of his administration’s promise to deliver people-oriented programmes and projects. The governor said the development plan of the state has been positively affected through the projects, including the Maternal and Child Health Centre, popularly known as Ayinke House, which the president commissioned earlier in the day.

“In our promise to deliver people-oriented projects and programmes, a closer look at all the projects indicates that nearly all the different pillars of our development plan as a state have been affected positively through these projects. The Institute of Maternal and Child Health at LASUTH contributes to our health and education sectors simultaneously.

“The Lagos Theatre, Ikeja is about our social development sector while the Oshodi transport interchange and buses come under our transport, infrastructure and commerce sectors. The Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road is an infrastructure development project.

“All these projects together form the thrust of our vision as a government and the end result is to make life better for all our people, irrespective of gender, tribe or political leanings,” he said.

Ambode said his administration invested the second tranche of the Paris Club refund, in addition to the refund by the Federal Government on federal road projects executed by states to the construction of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road and the Oshodi transport interchange, the first of its kind in Africa, while the first tranche of the Paris Club refund to states approved by the president was utilised to pay the 40 percent down-payment for the 820 buses.

“This is our report card, Mr. President. We have used your approval and releases judiciously because, we believe strongly in you, in your leadership and in your vision for our country. This is our modest contribution to the growth and development of our state and to the country in general.

“Mr. President, we believe strongly that the projects being commissioned today (yesterday) are our own modest contributions to the national development of Nigeria. As I said earlier, these projects would not have been possible without Mr. President’s quiet but impactful decision to release the Paris Club refund.”

R. Kelly’s accuser wins judgement in suit singer failed to answer

(Reuters) – A woman who accused R. Kelly of sexual abuse has won a civil case by default against the singer, after he failed to respond to her lawsuit and was a no-show in court.
The woman, who accused Kelly of repeatedly having sex with her when she was 16 years old, filed the case in Chicago in February, a day before Kelly was arrested on 10 charges of sexual abuse.

She is one of four accusers – three of whom were underage at the time of the alleged crimes – at the centre of the criminal case against Kelly, according to her lawyer, Jeffrey Deutschman. She is identified as “H.W.” in criminal court filings.

A Chicago judge on Tuesday entered a default ruling against Kelly, according to court records, after he did not respond to the lawsuit and missed the hearing.

The judge, Moira Johnson, will hear from the victim at a hearing next month before determining how much Kelly should pay in damages.

Kelly’s criminal defence attorney, Steve Greenberg, said he was not involved in the civil litigation and declined to comment.

Prosecutors say Kelly, 52, sexually assaulted three teenage girls as well as a woman. Kelly, who has faced similar allegations for decades, has pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied any wrongdoing.

He was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008.

The lawsuit said Kelly first met the woman when she was 16 years old and initiated a sexual relationship that lasted for more than a year.

Kelly, whose first name is Robert, is an R&B star known for hits like “I Believe I Can Fly” and “Bump N’ Grind.”

Serena Williams: Duchess Meghan’s baby shower was a ‘lot of effort’

Serena Williams says it took “a lot of effort” to plan Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s baby shower.

The 37-year-old tennis star has been friends with the former actress – who was known as Meghan Markle before marrying Prince Harry last year – for several years and took on the task of planning her baby shower back in February for the tot she’s expecting any day now, and has now revealed the party was a lot more pressure than she’d first thought.

Speaking to Business of Fashion, she said: “Planning something like that takes a lot of effort. I’m a perfectionist, so I’m like, ‘Let’s make it perfect.'”

Serena – who has a 19-month-old daughter of her own named Alexis Olympia – threw Meghan’s shower at The Mark Hotel, where guests were treated to a flower-arranging class and plenty of delicious food.

The sporting superstar invited the likes of Amal Clooney, Gayle King, Jessica Mulroney, Misha Nonoo, and Abigail Spencer to the event.

Meanwhile, Serena recently insisted the Duchess will make a great mother when her first child is born in the near future.

She said: “She’ll be the best mom, for sure.”

And the star even shared some of her tips on coping with parenthood for the first time, saying she had to learn to “go with the flow” and adapt to living day-to-day without too much planning to avoid causing unnecessary stress.

Serena added: “Accept mistakes and don’t expect to be perfect. We put so much pressure on ourselves.

“I had all those high expectations and what I was going to do and then I had what I was going to do.

“I was gonna recover and I was gonna be great, and this is a time that everything is not going to go as planned.

“My whole life is so planned and this is the one time where it wasn’t. You just gotta go with the flow.”

Doctors free to leave Nigeria, we have enough – Ngige

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, says doctors who feel they want to relocate in search of greener pastures are free to do so as the nation has enough medical personnel.
Ngige said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday.

The minister was responding to a question on brain drain and the deliberate recruitment of Nigerian doctors by foreign embassies in Nigeria to the detriment of the nation’s health sector.

In his response, however, Ngige, who is also a medical doctor, said there was nothing wrong with doctors leaving the country as they would continue to send foreign exchange home which could, in turn, grow the economy.

He said, “No, I am not worried (about doctors leaving the country). We have surplus. If you have surplus, you export. It happened some years ago here. I was taught chemistry and biology by Indian teachers in my secondary school days.

“There are surplus in their country and we also have surplus in the medical profession in our country. I can tell you this. In my area, we have excess.

“Who said we don’t have enough doctors? We have more than enough. You can quote me. There is nothing wrong in them travelling out. When they go abroad, they earn money and send them back home here. Yes, we have foreign exchange earnings from them and not just oil.”

When asked if he was sure of what he was saying, the minister said it was good for doctors to travel out as they would receive training from abroad and open up centres in Nigeria.
“Will you call that brain drain? I know a couple of them who practise abroad but set up medical centres back home. They have CAT scan, MRI scan which even the government cannot maintain. So, I don’t see any loss,” he said.

When asked if brain drain was not hurting the health sector, he said, “Brain drain will only be inimical when for instance neurosurgeons travel and we don’t have neurosurgeons here.”

Nigeria is believed to be one of the most affected countries in the world as regards emigration of medical doctors.

With an estimated population of over 180 million, there is one doctor per 5,000 people in Nigeria, according to the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, compared with the World Health Organization recommendation of one per 600 people.

There are 72,000 doctors registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria; over half practise outside the country.

Nine in every 10 doctors are considering work opportunities outside Nigeria. And it is projected to keep rising as doctors continue to face systemic challenges, according to NOI polls.

What are the habits that damage your kidney?

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs found in vertebrates. They are located on the left and right in the retroperitoneal space, and in adult humans are about 11 centimetres (4.3 in) in length. They receive blood from the paired renal arteries; blood exits into the paired renal veins. Each kidney is attached to a ureter, a tube that carries excreted urine to the bladder.

Just as it is related to other organs in human body, the inability to manage and maintain this important organ in the body is expensive, costly and life threatening which makes any disease that resulted from poor management of the kidney to be called terminal diseases or lifestyle diseases.

Jilted lover sets girlfriend’s family members ablaze, kills five

A man, Deji Adenuga, a.k.a. Dakar, on Tuesday allegedly set eight family members of his estranged girlfriend ablaze on Adetuwo Street, Igbodigo town, in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that five of the victims had given up the ghost, while three others were receiving treatment at the Trauma Centre, Ondo town, Ondo State.

A source told our correspondent that Adenuga was dating a girl in the family, identified only as Titi; but she later called off the relationship.

In retaliation, the suspect was alleged to have set the room where the family lived ablaze.

The source said, “What happened today (Tuesday) was shocking. The man (Adenuga) almost wiped out an entire family early this morning.

“He was angry because the girl (Titi) he was dating said she was no more interested in the relationship. In order to deal with the girl, he poured petrol in the room where all members of her family were sleeping and set them ablaze.

“He actually missed his target because the girl was not in the room at the time he set the room ablaze.

“Eight members of the family were severely burnt. Five of them have been confirmed dead, while the remaining three were rushed to the Trauma Centre, Ondo, where they are receiving treatment.”

The source noted that the suspect fled the town after the act, adding that his whereabouts was unknown to residents.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Mr Femi Joseph, said the police had begun investigation into the incident.

“We are on the trail of the suspect, while investigation has commenced into the matter. We will soon arrest him,” Joseph said.

The Peoples Democratic Party, Coalition of United Political Parties, and The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership have expressed opposition to a proposal by the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, to establish a private university to be known as Muhammadu Buhari University.
The groups described the proposed university as misplaced.

Aisha had, during a town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State organised by her in collaboration with Concerned Indigenes of Adamawa, disclosed her plan for the private university.
But the PDP Deputy National Publicity, Mr Diran Odeyemi, in an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday alleged that Buhari’s family was building a private university for themselves with public funds under the guise of donations from individuals who, he claimed, had been empowered by the Buhari family purposely for donations to their private university.

He urged Nigerians to resist any attempt by Aisha to use public funds to finance her private university under whatever guise.

Odeyemi said, “The proposed university by Mrs Aisha Buhari to be named after her husband is a manifestation of the warnings that the PDP has been giving Nigerians that the APC is a rotten political platform that was established to dupe Nigerians under the coinage of change mantra.

“Nigerians will remember that we raised the alarm about the deceitful tactics of Buhari and his immediate family who made us to feel they could not afford the money for a nomination form for his second term.

“Rather than engage in building a capital-intensive new university, why doesn’t the Federal Government improve on the dilapidated, failing and obsolete facilities of the existing great citadels of our ivory towers that are begging for upgrading and improvement?”

CUPP’s first spokesperson, Mr Imo Ugochinyere, in an interview said the planned university indicated that Buhari had no idea on how to improve the education system in the country, security and fight corruption.

He said, “It is a misplaced priority. It shows that the same people are promoting the use of state institutions to acquire personal wealth. It also shows that the President and his wife are clueless on how to solve the problems affecting the education sector in the country. The problem with our education system is not how to build a university in the name of Muhammadu Buhari.

“Look at the UNESCO requirement of minimum of 25 per cent of the budget going into education; we even do not have 22 per cent to education. They do not have plan for education. It is a wild goose chase and an opportunity for the President’s wife to dip her hands into the looting jamboree that is going on in the country. She wants to be part of it.

“It is contradictory. Where are they getting the land from? Where are they getting the money from to build the institution? And this is a government that has not fulfilled up to 30 per cent of his budget/promises to the education sector.”

Ugochinyere further alleged that Buhari’s administration did not have respect for the education sector. He lamented the infrastructure decay in many universities.

According to him, Buhari and Aisha have no idea for education development in Nigeria.

“She (Aisha) wants to call some friends of her husband so that they can donate for her to build a university which is going to be another illegal asset she is going to bequeath to herself. The only priority that the Constitution allows people in public position to do is more of farming. But now she wants to build an institution. She is going to use her influence to get land, she is going to use the friends of her husband to donate.

“These are the same people who were condemning Obasanjo Library. They are doing the same thing over and over again.”

CACOL’s Executive Chairman, Mr Debo Adeniran, in an interview said, “I do not think it is a right idea for a President who lives an austere life by example to allow his wife to embark on such a project although she said she was going to raise the money eternally. But wherever it comes from, if she has the capacity to raise adequate funding for a university, then she should use it for social welfare. She should use her influence to advance things that will solve maternal mortality, infant mortality and others that are confronting the people.

When contacted, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Onilu, said his mandate was to speak for the APC and not for Aisha.

Britney Spears Breaks Silence Amid Allegations She’s Being Held Against Her Will: ‘Don’t Believe Everything’

Britney Spears says all is well and just needs “time to deal.”

The singer broke her silence on Instagram on Tuesday, sharing a video reassuring her fans that she is in good health amid allegations that she is being held against her will at a health facility.

“Hi guys, just checking in with all of you who have been concerned about me. All is well. My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety lately so I just needed time to deal,” she says in the clip. “But don’t worry I will be back very soon.”

She also posted a lengthy caption, addressing the recent rumors circulating her health and family.

“I wanted to say hi, because things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!! Wow!!! There’s rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said,” she began. “I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me. Don’t believe everything you read and hear. These fake emails everywhere were crafted by Sam Lutfi years ago… I did not write them.”

“He was pretending to be me and communicating with my team with a fake email address,” she continued. “My situation is unique, but I promise I’m doing what’s best at this moment 🌸🌸🌸 You may not know this about me, but I am strong, and stand up for what I want! Your love and dedication is amazing, but what I need right now is a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life is throwing my way. If you could do that, I would be forever grateful. Love you ❤️❤️❤️.”

Spears checked herself into a health facility earlier this month. A source told ET that Spears’ decision was made due to the tremendous stress she’s endured due to the current health crisis of her father, Jamie Spears.
However, in the past week, #FreeBritney has been trending on social media as a result of allegations that the singer is being held against her will. Tess Barker and Barbara Gray, comedians and creators of the Britney’s Grampodcast, claimed last week that they had received “an anonymous tip from a credible source” alleging that Spears entered the health facility against her will. Around the 8:22 mark of the podcast episode, the hosts play back a voicemail that is allegedly from a paralegal who used to work for an attorney that was involved in Spears’ conservatorship.

There is no corroboration that the “Stronger” singer went against her will or is being held in the facility. In fact, ET learned that Spears briefly left her treatment facility earlier this month to get her hair done at a salon in Los Angeles and stepped out with her boyfriend Sam Asghari on Easter. She is still in treatment.

We expect every state to pay minimum wage – Presidency

Amid concerns over the ability of states and local governments to pay the new National Minimum Wage of N30,000, the Presidency said on Tuesday that it expected every state to comply with the payment.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Thursday signed the N30,000 National Minimum Wage Bill into law and directed that the implementation should commence immediately.

It replaces the current N18,000 minimum wage, which had been in place since 2011.

Speaking exclusively with The PUNCH in Abuja on Tuesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, said the President expected all the states to pay the new wage.

Enang said, “For Mr President, he has signed the bill. Remember that the negotiations took place for over two years and all these things (funding) were taken into account and they were addressed by the committee.

“The governors and the local governments were all heard before eventually it was agreed that N30,000 should be the minimum wage from the initial demand of labour.

“I don’t think we should entertain any fears until there is any implementation problem.”

The presidential liaison officer further told The PUNCH that the only immediate challenge might be that some of the states had already passed their 2019 budgets before the new Act came into effect.

For such states, he said the option for them was to consider supplementary budgets to make up for the difference between N18,000 and N30,000.

He said, “The only fear may be that some states may have already passed their budgets (2019) on the basis of N18,000, without the inclusion of the wage increase; in which case, they may have to consider a supplementary budget.

“Even the Federal Government today is still operating the 2018 budget, which had N18,000 as the minimum wage. The 2019 budget, which contains the provision for N30,000, has yet to be passed by the National Assembly.

“For the FG, it will only do adjustment of cost when the budget is passed without needing an additional appropriation.”

The PUNCH recalls that most of the state governors had opposed the N30,000 minimum wage during negotiations with labour.

At the January 17 National Economic Council meeting held in Abuja, it was learnt that the governors rejected the N30,000, insisting on N22,500.

They reportedly gave two conditions that would enable them to pay 30,000. They proposed a review of the revenue-sharing formula or reduction in workforce.

Under the current revenue sharing formula, the Federal Government takes the lion’s share of 52.68 per cent from the Federation Account. The 36 states take 26.72 per cent while the balance of 20.60 per cent is given to the 774 local governments in the country.

Meghan Markle’s Mom Doria Ragland Arrives in London Ahead of Birth of Royal Baby

That moment everyone’s been waiting for is almost here!

With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first child expected “any day” now, the Duchess of Sussex’s mother, Doria Ragland, has arrived in London, two sources tell ET.

The couple recently moved to Frogmore Cottage, a scenic home near Windsor Castle, where they intend to raise their child. While moving amid a pregnancy — particularly the final days — is no doubt a serious undertaking, a source previously told ET that Meghan is “enjoying her pregnancy and anticipating the days ahead.”

“It is such a happy and exciting time for Meghan,” the insider added. “She looks absolutely radiant and is taking each day at a time. [She is] looking forward to becoming a mother.”

Though the birth could happen anytime now, royal fans won’t know exactly when Baby Sussex makes his or her arrival. Meghan and Harry recently announced that — unlike Prince William and Kate Middleton — they will not pose for photos with the newborn outside of the hospital immediately following the birth. Instead, they’ll share photos taken on the grounds of Windsor Castle at a later date.

“Meghan Markle does not want the pressure of having to pose on the steps for cameras so soon after childbirth,” a source recently told ET, adding that, while the couple is “extremely excited” for the birth of their first child, they intend to “enjoy the magic of childhood without any undue expectations.”

Markle’s mother’s arrival coincides with another important occasion — Queen Elizabeth II’s 93rd birthday on Sunday — which the couple celebrated with a very special Instagram post for the beloved matriarch.

“Happy Birthday Your Majesty, Ma’am, Granny,” the pair captioned a series of photos on Instagram documenting the Queen’s life, including her time with both of them. “Wishing you the most wonderful day! 🎈Harry & Meghan.”

Sri Lanka bombings: Eight Britons killed as attack claimed lives of Asos owner’s three children

Eight British nationals have been killed following the suspected terror attack in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, a senior diplomat has said, while three children of the billionaire owner of online fashion Asos were also named among the victims.

Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the UK, Manisha Gunasekera, said the number of British victims had risen to eight after it was previously reported five were killed in a series of explosions at hotels and churches.

“As of now I think there is information on eight nationals who have lost their lives and the other numbers are of other nationals,” she told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

Ms Gunasekera said the investigations were moving “very swiftly” but warned against taking a “linear view” on the motive of the attacks.

She said: “This cuts across the ethnic and religious dimensions… it’s very difficult to see who has been targeted. It appears as if the entirety of Sri Lanka has been targeted as well as the unity and coexistence that Sri Lankans have attempted so hard to safeguard over the years.”

Danish fashion tycoon Anders Holch Povlsen, the country’s richest man, is mourning the death of his three children.

A spokesperson for the father-of-four confirmed that three of his children were among the dead after they visited Sri Lanka over the Easter holidays.

Mr Povlsen is the second-largest individual private landowner in the UK and Scotland’s largest private landowner.

Police and security services in Sri Lanka are continuing to investigate the Easter massacre which killed nearly 300 people including at least eight Britons.

A series of blasts, most thought to be the work of suicide bombers, ripped through churches and luxury hotels on Easter Sunday.

A Sri Lankan government official said the attacks were carried out by seven suicide bombers from a domestic militant group named National Thowfeek Jamaath.

All of the bombers were Sri Lankan citizens, but authorities suspect foreign links, Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said at a news conference.

Earlier, Ariyananda Welianga, a government forensic crime investigator, said an analysis of the attackers’ body parts made clear that they were suicide bombers. He said most of the attacks were carried out by a single bomber, with two at Colombo’s Shangri-La Hotel.

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said there was “lots of speculation at the moment but there is no hard knowledge” about the perpetrators of the atrocity and “we obviously need to wait for the police in Sri Lanka to do their work”.

He said the UK would offer Sri Lanka support in the days to come.

“If there is any help that the UK can give, we would want to give it,” he said.

One line of inquiry will be asking what intelligence services knew about the attack, with Minister for Telecommunications Harin Fernando tweeting: “Some intelligence officers were aware of this incidence.

“Therefore there was a delay in action. What my father heard was also from an intelligence officer. Serious action need to be taken as to why this warning was ignored.”

In Colombo, St Anthony’s Shrine and the Cinnamon Grand, Shangri-La and Kingsbury hotels were targeted in the first wave of explosions shortly before 9am local time as worshippers attended morning services and tourists enjoyed their breakfasts.

Among the Britons feared dead are Anita Nicholson, 42, and her 11-year-old son Alex.

They were reported to have been dining in the Shangri-La when the bomber struck.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Mrs Nicholson was based in Singapore as managing counsel at the mining and metals company Anglo American.

Britons caught up in the carnage in Colombo described the horrific scenes they witnessed.

Following the blast at the Cinnamon Grand, NHS doctor Julian Emmanuel, from Surrey, told The Sun: “I’ve never seen such utter devastation.”

He added: “My children and wife are traumatised by what they saw today. We will never forget this. We will always remember Easter Sunday for this reason now.”

Kieran Arasaratnam, a professor at Imperial College London Business School, was staying at the Shangri-La.

“Everyone just started to panic, it was total chaos,” he told the BBC. “I looked to the room on the right and there’s blood everywhere.

“Everyone was running and a lot of people just don’t know what was going on. People had blood on their shirt and there was someone carrying a girl to the ambulance. The walls and the floor were covered in blood.”

Hampstead and Kilburn MP Tulip Siddiq said she had lost a relative in the attacks.

She posted on Twitter: “It’s all so devastating. Hope everyone is keeping safe. Solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka.”

Prime Minister Theresa May said the Easter Sunday massacre was “truly appalling”, and “no-one should ever have to practise their faith in fear”.

A curfew was imposed by the authorities on Sunday night and social media use was also restricted by the authorities, which claimed the move was to prevent the spread of false information.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn called for “unity, love and respect” to combat hatred.

He said: “I’m appalled by the horrific attacks in Sri Lanka, on Easter Sunday, the most important day in the Christian calendar.”

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said: “On this holy day, let us stand with the people of Sri Lanka in prayer, condolence and solidarity as we reject all violence, all hatred and all division.”

Sri Lanka’s prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe condemned “the cowardly attacks on our people”.

Nisanga Mayadunne, who studied at the University of London according to her Facebook profile, and her mother Shantha – a TV chef – were also reported to be among the dead.

Nisanga posted a photo of her family eating breakfast in the Shangri-La on Easter Sunday.

New Prince Louis photos taken by mum Kate Middleton to mark his first birthday

With his knitted sweater, smart white collar and neatly parted hair, birthday boy Prince Louis looks a real chip off the old block.

The rosy cheeked royal, who turns one on Tuesday, giggles as he gets covered in greenery while crawling about in the garden, proudly showing off his two little front teeth.

These adorable photographs taken by his mum Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, have been released by the Royal Family as they celebrate Louis’s first birthday.

The youngster, who is the third and youngest child of Kate, 37, and Prince William, 36, is pictured playing in the grounds of the family’s Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, in photographs taken earlier this month.

In two of the photos, Louis’s rosy cheeks match his red jumper.
In the third he is wearing a blue jumper with a dog motif and looks more serious – though there is still the hint of a smile from the playful prince.

The mischievous energy in these snaps is typical of the tireless tot, who loves to play with big brother George, five, and sister Charlotte, three.

A royal source said: “He is the most delightful boy, always happy and smiling. He is adored by all the family, especially his big brother and sister.”

In March, Kate revealed that Louis, then about 11 months old, was an active child.

She told a fellow parent during a visit to a children’s centre: “He just wants to pull himself up all the time. He’s got these little walkers and is bombing around on them.”

A photo released soon after Louis was born showed him being cuddled by Charlotte on her third birthday, when he was only about a week old.

In November, Kate said during a visit to Leicester University: “Louis is getting bigger.

“I can’t believe he’s seven months. He’s getting a big boy.”

Sporting his usual big grin, the prince was last pictured about four months ago with his family for their official Christmas card.

The little prince, whose full name is Louis Arthur Charles, is fifth in line to the throne.

And yesterday the sixth in line, his uncle Prince Harry , released some snaps of his own on the Instagram page he launched this month with wife Meghan.

They marked Earth Day by sharing eight snaps showcasing their passion for the environment, including the pair pictured in Rotorua, New Zealand, last year.

Yesterday it was claimed the security bill for their possible move to Africa could cost taxpayers around £1million a year.

Advisers are reportedly working to create a Commonwealth role for the pair that could mean them moving there for up to three years.

It would require a dedicated team of royal protection officers for each of them.

A security source said: “The cost of protecting high profile royals would be at least £1million a year, most likely more with round-the-clock personal protection officers, in-country teams and British security services monitoring potential threats against them.
“It would be paid for from taxpayer funds while police and the security services are already stretched. It’s a mighty big ask.”

Hailey Baldwin fires back at critics: ‘Am I not allowed to be grateful?’

Hailey Baldwin isn’t playing around when it comes to her haters.

The model and wife of Justin Bieber fired back at critics who lambasted her for her wealth. Baldwin recently shared videos on Instagram that showcased her enjoying the “smallest things in life.”

“Taking time to really be grateful for the smallest things in life goes a very long way for your soul,” she stated in an Instagram story. “Never hurts to remind yourself to have gratitude, even for the littlest of things,” the model added.

“Today I’m grateful to be sitting in the sunshine eating lunch…may not seem like the biggest deal but reminding myself how wonderful it is made me smile,” Baldwin went on. In conclusion, she stated, “Thank you God for the little things… The smallest things in life will make you happy if you let them.”

Baldwin’s reflections were immediately compiled and criticized by one disgruntled Instagram user, who stated, “My husband is worth 265 million but it’s the little things that make me happy ha ha ha.”

Baldwin quickly responded, stating, “Money doesn’t = happiness. At all. You can be the wealthiest person in the planet and be miserable. Not fair to judge people’s circumstances from the outside.. am I not allowed to be grateful to sit in the sunshine and enjoy my day like a regular person?”

The daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin has been romantically linked to husband Justin Bieber since 2015, and eventually married in November of 2018. Bieber has kept a relatively low profile in the media over the past two years, citing “deep rooted issues” that he has been dealing with.

Blac Chyna is taking a moment to reflect on the ups and downs she’s endured over the past few years.
The 30-year-old model was thrust into the limelight even more when she started dating Rob Kardashian in 2016 and became pregnant with his first child, 2-year-old Dream Kardashian. Needless to say, Chyna has been through a lot, and in an open letter to her fans on Monday, she copped to when she’s wronged others while also calling out those she feels bullied her.

Chyna, who was born Angela White, goes on to praise her fans for their support and vows to show them more of herself.

“Blac Chyna doesn’t define Angela White as a person. At 30, I am overwhelmed with the blessings I have,” she continued. “Being A mother of two amazing children. I don’t talk on things often, but I promise to give you guys more of me. Angela White Perspective.”

NAF aircraft neutralise several bandits in Zamfara

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says its Air Task Force (ATF) for Operation DIRAN MIKIYA has neutralised no fewer than 10 bandits at Sububu Forest area in Zamfara.

Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, said the operation was conducted on Monday.

“This was achieved yesterday April 22 ,while the ATF was responding to a request for close air support by ground troops of Sector 7 Area of Responsibility of Operation SHARAN DAJI, who had come into contact with bandits in Shinkafi Local Government Area (LGA).

“Accordingly, the ATF dispatched two Alpha Jets and an attack helicopter to provide the needed support and also conduct armed reconnaissance over identified locations in Shinkafi LGA as well as Sububu and Dumburum Forests and environs.

“At Sububu Forest, one of the Alpha Jets spotted a group of bandits, who fired at the aircraft with their rifles, whilst running for cover.

“The Alpha Jet engaged the bandits, neutralising no fewer than 10 of them while others escaped with injuries,” he said.

Daramola said the NAF, working in consonance with surface forces and other security agencies, would sustain its operations to flush the bandits out of the North West of the Country.

I’m not sleeping on duty, Buhari replies Catholic bishop

The Presidency disagreed on Monday that President Muhammadu Buhari was “sleeping on duty as the Commander-in-Chief,” a description the Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Rt Rev Fr Stephen Mamza, gave of Buhari on Sunday.
The cleric had, during an Easter homily he delivered in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, criticised the Buhari administration for allegedly failing to halt insecurity in the country, especially escalating kidanappings, banditry and other violent crimes.

Speaking specifically on the latest killings in Zamfara, Benue, Adamawa, Taraba and Southern Kaduna, the bishop said, “We are really in a dilemma. We (Nigerians) are feeling that we don’t have protection. From all indications, there is nothing being done. There have been calls from all over the country. Look at what is happening in Zamfara State; look at what is happening in Benue periodically, in Nasarawa State and now in Adamawa (Southern Adamawa).

“If there is a government in place, then the government should listen to the people and address the security challenges. We have mass burials from time to time and there is no sign the government cares about what is happening.”

But the Presidency on Monday disagreed with the bishop, denying that Buhari had been sleeping on duty.

It accused Mamza of not “staying above politics” and also not making “a fair comment” about Buhari.

The Presidency went on to recount what Buhari had done to restore security since he assumed duty in 2015, especially in the war against insurgency.

It argued that but for Buhari’s efforts, Yola and other towns in Adamawa and the rest of the North-East would still be under the control of Boko Haram.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, who gave the Presidency’s position, stated, “There is so much that has changed in the past three to four years in and around Yola, and the Catholic Church in particular that a true assessment would show that, but for the change administration of President Buhari, things would have continued the way they were, or even get worse. These could not have happened if a Commander-in- Chief was asleep.

“Bishop Mamza was, and is still a strong member of the Adamawa Peace Initiative, API, composed of religious and community leaders, which did the lovely work housing and feeding 400,000 displaced people from Northern Adamawa and Borno states in 2015. The API also did the extraordinary work of easing tensions between Muslims and Christians during that period and ensured that both groups did not turn on one another based on suspicion.

“As widely reported by the local and international press, in the premises of St. Theresa’s Cathedral where Rev Mamza ministered, there were more than 1,500 IDPs, mostly women and children on whom the church administered food rations and issued bags of maize, cooking oil and seasoning. We are truly touched and very grateful for the work that the Bishop and the others had done in that difficult period.

“Now that Boko Haram has been degraded, the more than 400,000 displaced people absorbed by the Adamawa community have all gone back to Borno State and to those council areas in northern Adamawa.”

“In addition to the capital,Yola, the towns of Michika, Madagali and Mubi, which had been occupied by Boko Haram during their military advances, have since been retaken by the Nigerian military, whose personnel are also clearing litters of Boko Haram’s carnage and are, through the support of the administration as well as local and international partners, rebuilding roads and bridges, power lines, burnt schools, markets, destroyed churches and mosques.”

Claiming further credits, the Presidency said the North-East fared better under Buhari in terms of security of lives and property.

It added, “Without an iota of doubt, the North-East is better off with President Buhari than it was under the previous administration. That should explain the massive turnout of voters in the region, in spite of threats to life and property, to vote for the return of the President for a second term of four years.

“Sadly, one of the realities of today’s Nigeria is that it is easy to blame President Buhari for the violence all around us. Community leaders are too scared to blame the warlords and the sponsors of killings we live with because they fear for their own lives.”

On the recent inter-communal and religious clashes in parts of the country, the Presidency noted that the leaders in such communities were to blame by failing to expose the perpetrators.

It explained, “What is happening in several communities racked by inter-ethnic and religious violence is arising from the refusal of community leaders to point at known criminals in their midst for the law enforcement agencies to act against them. They rather blame President Buhari for their woes.

“It is indeed an irony that in the week that Bishop Mamza was speaking, another Bishop with a known commitment to peace, and results to show for his work in neighbouring Plateau State, is being dispatched to go to Taraba, Adamawa and Benue states to work in collaboration with security agencies in mending broken inter-communal relationships.

“This senseless violence can never be condoned by the administration and we sympathise with the families of those who lost loved ones as well as those injured. The administration’s intense security efforts and peace building will not only continue, but will expand in response to such explosions of violence in the country.”

10 dead, 30 children hurt as Nigeria policeman rams car into crowd

Ten people were killed and more than 30 injured when a policeman rammed his carinto a group of children during an Easter procession in northeast Nigeria, before being killed himself by the angry crowd, witnesses and police sources told AFP Monday.
The deadly incident happened late Sunday when the off-duty policeman ploughed his car into a procession celebrating Easter in Gombe, state police spokeswoman Mary Mallum said.

“Ten people were killed, including the policeman and a paramilitary member who was with him,” Mallum said.

“We learnt the policeman and his friend who were not in uniform were attacked and killed by the angry crowd,” she said.

“Another 30 children were injured and are currently in hospital while the investigation is ongoing,” Mallum said.

According to witnesses at the scene contacted by AFP, the driver deliberately drove the car into the crowd following an altercation over the procession blocking the road.

“The driver of the car had a heated argument with the children before they made way for him to pass, only for him, in a fit of rage, to turn and drive into them,” said Isaac Kwadang, head of the Boys Brigade in Gombe.

“He did it on purpose,” Kwadang said.

Religious processions are common by Christian and Muslim adherents during festivities and religious observances in Nigeria in which roads are blocked, causing traffic chaos.
